Quiltmaker's 100 Block Issue

I had been asked to design a block for Quiltmaker's 100 Block issue, Volume 2. Of course I said yes, what an honor and opportunity for creativity! I desigend a block that I named "Tapestry" because when put together with the sashing strips I designed to go with the block, the colors are interwoven so it resembles a tapestry. I used Jinny Beyers Porcelana fabrics, which I love, especially the border fabrics which provide lots of interesting placement for the triangles within the block. I was also asked to contribute blocks for Volumes 3 and 4. Volume 3 will feature my "Blossom" block which uses a fun and easy way to make dimensional flower petals. I'm still toying with lots of ideas for Volume 4. I'm trying to choose between an applique block, or a block called "Picadilly Square" which would use "mod" colors from the 60's! There's also an intersting vase block that I've drawn. It would use an interesting plus/minus fusible technique which would infuse the vase with lots of color and design using just 3 fabrics and a background fab. Well, we'll see what happens with that block. I'll have to stop drawing and make one! Here's a link with more information about the issue.

In the meantime, "Mia's Secret Garden" will be published in the April 2011 issue of McCall's Quilting. I'm almost finished with my new quilt design, "Reflections", which will be published soon too. My inspiration for this quilt came from the idea that it would be nice to look at many words that are nice to reflect on. There are, I think, 17 of these words like honor, wisdom, truth, love, etc. which are embroidered on fabric "tiles". The center panel features a great oriental tree applique with such character giving the quilt a whole zen-like quality. Can you tell I love what I do!? I hope inspiration meets you and spends lots of time the next time you sit down to do your quilting!
